Favour the armchair too often and you could succumb to the inertia, which leads to muscle wasting, poor mobility, increased risk to falls, loss of independence, ill health, and poor quality of life.

Experts already know that physically active adults live longer, healthier lives than their inactive counterparts. But what kind of exercise is best for the older adults?

Many excellent studies have illustrated that progressive, heavy strength training can reverse many of the physiological declines typical of ageing, and provide a swag of excellent benefits such as:

  • Improved muscle and joint strength
  • Significantly improved mobility and gait speed
  • Better balance and postural stability
  • Improved bone health
  • Reduced feelings of anxiety & depression
  • Better sleep quality
  • Increased free fat mass, improved metabolism
  • Improvement of arthritis and better joint health
  • Greater confidence
